With so many businesses selling window coverings, how do I know which one to buy from? The answer is simple. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! By that I mean that you should always research the businesses that you are thinking of dealing with. Don’t know where to start? Then Google using words such as “blinds, shades, or window coverings”.  You will get a LOT of websites, but don’t be alarmed. Visit a few sites and see if anything stands out from other businesses.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR?

First of all, check to see if a business is recognized as a member of the Better Business Bureau or BBB. How many years have they been in the business of selling window coverings? Is this the only thing they do or is their business multi-faceted? How much experience does the staff  have in measuring and installing? Do they have a storefront where you can go to view the products? What do the reviews say about a business? What if something goes wrong? What type of warranty and after sales service do they offer?

THEY ALL SEEM THE SAME – NOW WHAT?

There are many other questions that you can ask when searching for a dealer, but in the end it will come down to one thing. Do you feel good with the person that you are dealing with? Are they honest with you and interested in making your home look the best that it can while staying within your budget? OR do you get the feeling that they just want to make a sale and then you’ll be forgotten?

WHAT IF I LIKE MORE THAN ONE BUSINESS?

Once you have narrowed it down to 2 or 3 firms, visit them and get a quote from each one. THIS IS IMPORTANT – Make sure that the quotes you are given are for the same product, same pattern and color, and the same optional features such as operating systems, (ie. cords or cordless). Make sure that you compare “apples to apples” or else the quotes will be deceiving. Also check what the installation costs are and is GST included?
